Sharing a bit of reading - Jihadists & Protestants

Laughter has so far been a sadly neglected weapon in the War on Terror. Now at last we have some anti-jihadist humor. A husband tells his totally veiled wife: “Look at you — you are still as beautiful as the day I met you!” Family members gathered at the bedside of their gravely ill father reel in horror when the attending physician tells them that the only available donor kidney is from a Jew. (A mullah is called in to convert the kidney to Islam.) A young suicide bomber fakes having a cold so that his parents won’t make him carry out a planned attack on the U.S. embassy. (The father is angry: “I told all my friends to watch the TV news!” Mom, however, is sympathetic: “That embassy is not going anywhere, young man, and neither are you.” Dad: “Samah, please — he’s blowing himself up!” Mom: “Exactly! You want him giving his cold to everybody?” Etc., etc.) These brief but hilarious sketches come from a series called Sands of Passion, created by, which describes itself as an “online comedy network.” Good luck to them, and let us give thanks for the grand American tradition of irreverent humor from which they spring.

In Samuel P. Huntington's book "Who Are We: The Challenges to America's National Identity," he asks: "Would America be the America it is today if in the 17th and 18th centuries it had been settled not by British Protestants but by French, Spanish or Portuguese Catholics? The answer is no. It would not be America; it would be Quebec, Mexico or Brazil."
