Christianity's other enemy

AsiaNews - Mahatma Gandhi’s India, a land of tolerance and democracy, has been shamed. “It is a disgrace for our country,” said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a view seconded by Card Oswald Gracias, archbishop of Mumbai. Both agree that what is happening to Christians in the state of Orissa since 23 August is a pogrom. The toll so far is a heavy one and bound to rise. Tens of people have died (some estimates put the number at around 100).

At least 52 churches (both Catholic and Protestant) have been destroyed. Hundreds of homes have been damaged. Four convents and five hostels and youth residences have fared no better. Six Catholic volunteer and social institutes have been devastated. Last but not least hundreds of cars have been set on fire and countless personal belongings have been lost. Even now thousands of Christians are still in flight, running from slaughter, living in forests, terrorised, without food or clothing.

...... But what is happening is not only India’s shame. It is also that of Europe and the world. Except for a few voices like that of Italian Foreign Minister Frattini, no government has dared to say anything about the massacres in Orissa, let alone calling for them to stop.

AsiaNews - The European parliament condemned anti-Christian violence in India but failed to stop the christophobia of its members during the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I in the chamber. In his address the patriarch referred to the value of religion for Europe and Turkey and the potential of building cultural bridges thanks to religious faiths this year, which the European parliament dedicated to intercultural dialogue. The event however highlighted the christophobia that also existing within this European institution.

Many Green, Liberal and Socialist MEPs were absent during the patriarch’s address, probably because a Belgian Social MEP, Véronique De Keyser, released a statement in which she “sounded the alarm for democracy and the separation of church and state.” The Belgian lawmaker warned that under the “mantle of the intercultural year” religions “have gone on the offensive,” something which violates the principle of separation of church and state on which the European parliament is based.

MK - Can't even muster a few words to condemn the campaign of murder and persecution against Christians in a far away land. It's not like they were demanding that she waffle her ass over to India and kick some Hindus or something.

But no, if she were to say anything in favor of the Christians, the consequences will be dire, the local bible study group may even barge into her office and show her a bible, the horror! The great Europe is under threat folks, a deadly threat that will overwhelm the entire European parliament if she were to even listen to the words of the patriarch!

If Muslims were being bombed and burned out of their homes, towns and everywhere else, if they were hiding in forests fearing for their lives and some mufti or Imam were to address this fragile European parliament, do you think this woman would be carping about the separation of Mosque and state? Do you think she'd be wailing and beseeching her fellow secularist warriors to boycott the Imam's speech and accept the tag, 'Islamophobe'?

Sorry Christians, there is no pity in the 'compassionate' left for you. They might not openly support your persecution but they sure seem to struggle quite a lot to utter even a few platitudes in your favor. Remember this the next time you think that radical, militant Islam is your only foe.
