When you give up your guns…

Daily Mail - ......Yesterday, the dismal career of the Wild Runts, as residents came to call the gang, appeared to be at an end after all nine were named and shamed and handed Anti-Social Behaviour Orders. ......The schoolchildren, many of them with siblings, repeatedly threatened and abused residents, vandalised property, hurled bricks and lit fires. The two girls and seven boys - all aged between 12 and 16 - tore down soil pipes, threw mud balls at windows and scratched parked cars.

Magistrates in Wigan heard that some residents on the Beech Hill Estate were so terrified of reprisals that they had to be given anonymity in return for testifying. Some had to be rehoused. The trouble on the estate began at the turn of the year and the activities of the gang were monitored by housing and council officials from February before action began in the summer.
Heavens above, what next, witness protection programs, relocation to another country etc? It's like the mafia or something, a community living in absolute terror of a couple of young rascals. The police have to join forces (?), huh, sounds like some sort of war upon Britain or something, it sounds like they had a battle plan, maps and what not to fight back against their teenage aggressors.
[The rascals] ......were given Asbos instructing them not to gather in groups of more than three - as well as warning them against misbehaving or abusing residents. If they break the two-year orders they could be locked up for up to five years.
So who's going to ensure they don't do any of this, are they going to follow these rascals around and take notes or something. And if they do what they feel like anyway, hurl bricks, start fires and all that? Put the hot air and chest beating aside guys, I would really like to see any judge sentence a 12 year-old to 5 years in jail for the above in Britain, honestly, i'd like to see this.
Inspector Glenn Jones of Greater Manchester Police said: 'This is a landmark case and sends out the message that all of us - community safety agencies and decent people in local communities - can work together to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.'
Well Inspector, some would see this as yet another example of what happens when a society gives up its guns and weapons and believes that the state and the tooth fairy will keep them safe. It is a 'landmark case' only in the sense that the people stopped cowering in their homes and decided to band together and make a trembling stand against 9 little scumbags.

In a time long forsaken, after the first brick was hurled, the adults would have got together, hauled the little cretins in, the back of someone's hand would have met the odd insolent cheek at high speed, someone's boot would have thumped some ass and that would have been the end of that, no need for thousands of pounds to be spent putting together fancy operations, hiring lawyers, meetings, getting judges involved and the need for witness protection programs.

Think this is only a problem over in Britain, think again folks.
LiveNews - Official reports on public school playgrounds reveal weapons such as knives, tomahawks and replica guns are being found on a regular basis. The statistics come from serious incident reports filed by NSW public schools between April last year and March this year. Documents show knives were found on students on 57 occasions last year, while four students were in possession of tomahawks.
Oh my goodness, somebody call a politician and scream at them, knives and what not, somebody has to pass a law, take some action, do something! Er..... no wait, we already have enough laws prohibiting weapons in public and stabbings in all sorts of fancy language and different types of paper. Our schools and streets are already 'gun-free' and 'weapons-free' zones.

Alright then, I guess we just need the relevant minister of whatever to issue some sort of gaseous platitude about 'tough laws', 'harsh punishment', 'zero tolerance' and {insert whatever makes you feel better but doesn't actually do anything}.

That'll show them.
