Cops and Citizens takin' out the trash!

USA Today [Hat tip Panday]- The number of justifiable homicides committed by police and private citizens has been rising in the past two years to their highest levels in more than a decade, reflecting a shoot-first philosophy in dealing with crime, say law enforcement analysts. The 391 killings by police that were ruled justifiable in 2007 were the most since 1994, FBI statistics show. The 254 killings by private individuals found to be self-defense were the most since 1997.

The FBI says a homicide committed by a private citizen is justified when a person is slain during the commission of a felony, such as a burglary or robbery. Police are justified, the FBI says, when felons are killed while the officer is acting in the line of duty. Rulings on these deaths are usually made by the local police agencies involved.
Thank you, thank you above kind citizens and cops, in these times of turmoil, it's great to hear some good news. Not only are you doing a great service for humanity in preventing other crimes by these criminals, you are also saving the hardworking American taxpayer thousands if not millions of dollars. Also remember, you are doing your bit for the planet too, you good folks are sort of already part of any future carbon trading scheme, as I think it's only fair that you are allowed to offset the carbon assprints of these scumbags you've taken out against yours.

I almost forgot, best of all, with this news you good folks are also causing immeasurable consternation and sour feelings among those in the progressive/leftist movement. You know how their messiah showed his utter contempt for you folks because you were clinging to your guns? This is why, so trust me, this [Citizens refusing to be victims and taking out the criminal trash] will depress them more than you'll ever know and giving them cause to grieve and reach for anti-depressants is always a good thing. Have a Kleenex guys.
......Instead, Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president and chief executive officer, says the Sept. 11 attacks and the widespread looting and violence after Hurricane Katrina spurred some people to take more responsibility for their own safety. Immediately after those events, LaPierre says the group's gun-safety trainers reported "big increases" in NRA-sponsored courses. "Americans are simply refusing to be victims," he says.

Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck says the FBI underestimates self-defense killings by citizens because the ones that are not precipitated by felony crimes may not get counted. "Less than a third of (citizen killings) are reported," he says.
What! You mean the number of criminal scum being taken out by citizens is even more than we think it is! Heavens above, thanks so much you folks, whoever you are. You are too kind to us, bless you, and you too Panday! Have another Kleenex lefties. I'm getting the Jack Daniels out today, it's reserved for special occassions and today sure is a one of those, a toast to these good folks!
