A New Berlin wall?

This is like those Jews over in Israel who were criticised for building an ‘apartheid’ wall to protect themselves from being blown to pieces! A few days ago, they [not the Jews] appealed to that cruel dictator George Bush, hoping to melt his heart of cold granite. I’m sure the treacherous liberals were shedding many tears over this too.
Mexico asked President Bush on Monday to veto a Senate plan to build a border fence to keep illegal immigrants out, but acknowledged that its plea was likely to fall on deaf ears. "The Mexican government strongly opposes the building of walls in the border area between Mexico and the United States," President Vicente Fox's spokesman Ruben Aguilar told reporters.

"This decision hurts bilateral relations, goes against the spirit of cooperation needed to guarantee security on the common border, creates a climate of tension in border communities," he said.
Oh the bleeding hearts! Tell you what Fox, why don’t we ship a few hundred thousand Zimbabweans and Sudanese over to Mexico to enjoy your hospitality, you know in the spirit of cooperation and bilateral waffling, then we’ll talk about the fence. Till then, suck it up and join the queue like the rest of the world.
US President George W Bush has signed a controversial bill into law that will pay for a 700-mile fence (1,125km) fence along the border with Mexico. The barrier, equipped with hi-tech surveillance equipment, will be built in areas where many illegal immigrants cross over into the United States.
So what is controversial about a country wanting to protect its borders and its citizens from illegal activity, what is controversial about a country preferring immigrants through normal immigration channels, over unknown people coming in under the radar? Leftists and liberals are always banging on about social justice and rights for terrorists, how come they prefer an illegal who takes the easy route over someone doing the right thing?
Under the new law, around $1.2bn will be spent over the coming year on the border, which will be built on remote and inhospitable border areas in the south west of the country.

Supporters of the fence have said it will be a crucial tool to fight illegal immigration - which is expected to be a key issue in November's mid-term elections.

But critics of the scheme say it will force illegal immigrants to cross somewhere else. The outgoing Mexican President, Vicente Fox, has called the fence shameful, and compared it to the Berlin Wall.
Thank Bush for his ‘deaf ears!’ I’m sure the critics also believe in global citizenship, why should Americans, only benefit from America and other soft crap. I have to wonder if these ‘critics’ even know what they are saying. Assuming the ‘somewhere else’ is worse than the location of the proposed fence; these are illegal immigrants we are talking about, why on earth would one, not want to make their illegal activities harder!

Note to the supporters, find out where that ‘somewhere else’ is and start building a fence there too.
