They’re on a roll folks

Just a quick glance at mosnews.com and it looks like the Russians just finished reading “How to piss everybody off”!
Russia stuck to its guns on Iran at the weekend, saying it would definitely block any United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution to sanction Iran for its nuclear program, the AFP news agency reported.

The European Union said on Tuesday that its diplomatic effort had failed to curb Iran’s nuclear program and the UN should act on US-led demands for sanctions. A resolution to impose limited sanctions on Iran might come before the security council this week, Russian state television reported yesterday.

However, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday that Russia would veto any such move because there was no evidence the country was developing nuclear weapons.
Well North Korea calls itself a democracy, I guess it must be then! In October 2005,
A spokesman for the Russian mission to the United Nations, Sergei Trepelkov, said Russia was committed to ensuring Iran remains free of nuclear weapons. "Iran is on our border," he said. "We are the first interested in seeing that Iran will never get nuclear weapons."
Let those Chechens start shooting off at the mouth about an "ocean welling up" and "your 9/11 will come", and then let’s see if the Russians remain so gullible.

Moving on,
Israel’s prime minister on Sunday downplayed the Russian foreign minister’s comments that it was “unrealistic” to demand that Hamas immediately recognize Israel and disarm, the Associated Press news agency reports.

The demands have been made by Israel and the so-called Quartet of international Mideast negotiators, to which Russia belongs.
Yeah, Hamas hasn't changed its colors for years, but have faith, they'll come around soon enough. What's the big hurry anyway, its not Russians ducking for cover and being blown to pieces. Perhaps the Russians are looking to expand business a bit.

Next on the list,
An alleged mafia jibe directed at Italy by Russian President Vladimir Putin received widespread coverage in the Italian media Monday and risked straining relations between the two countries, Press Trust of India reports.

Speaking during a summit with European Union leaders in Finland, Putin reportedly defended himself from charges that organized crime networks dominate business in his country by noting that “the word mafia was born in Italy, not Russia”, Spain’s El Pays reported Sunday.

The remark was splashed out on the front pages of Italy’s leading dailies Monday and drew condemnation from government officials.
In Putins defense, he is technically correct, isn’t he? ‘Mafia’ did originate in Italy, right?
