A dilemma for leftists

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has told Japan that Washington would stand by a commitment to protect its Asian ally in response to North Korea's nuclear capability. Rice made the announcement during a news conference in Tokyo on the first stop of a tour of North Asia.

Rice also tried to counter fears of an Asian nuclear arms race after North Korea's underground nuclear test. Rice will head from Japan to Seoul and Beijing, seeking a unified stance on UN sanctions slapped on Pyongyang last Saturday for exploding a nuclear device.

Russia's foreign ministry has called on North Korea to take a "rational decision" that would avoid nuclear confrontation. Meanwhile intelligence experts said on Wednesday satellites have spotted a pick-up in activity at the North's suspected test site, suggesting a second blast may be imminent.

So on the one hand, leftists despise America and any moves by Americans of their troops into foreign lands leads to cries of imperialism, globalization, sonar and whales, hegemony, crusader, oil, coke etc depending the protest off course. On the other hand, leftists also hate all things nuclear, particularly American and Israeli nuclear capability, witness the mass hysteria whenever PM Howard quietly suggests we have a 'nuclear power' debate.

Hence the dilemma, crackpot Pyongyang (who was not stopped by lefty Clinton who was literally caught with his pants down) is well on its way into the nuclear club, commie Russia and China won’t let anyone stop them, and the rest of the Asians will want nukes to deter the crackpots. So whatever will the leftists do, support the American military expansion in Asia or support nukes for the rest of the Asians, there is no third choice, kind of like a ‘the lesser of two evils’.
