Not the Most Popular Prisoner

And now for today's "feel-good" story:
Radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, charged in Britain with 16 offences including incitement to murder Jews, has been attacked by a fellow detainee in the high security Belmarsh prison, The Sun daily reported on Monday.

"It was a violent physical incident involving another inmate but I do not know whether a weapon was used. There is no information on whether he received treatment," said Abu Mussa, a spokesman for the former head of London's Finsbury Park mosque, was quoted as saying in the best-selling tabloid.

"There are some tasty characters in there. They don't care about getting caught and one of them wanted to show Hamza exactly what they think of him," he added.

Belmarsh prison in the capital holds some of the most dangerous prisoners in Britain.

According to the spokesman, the former imam "had previously received threats from other prisoners on the lines of 'we are going to kill you'".
It is not clear whether he is detested because he is an arch terrorist, due to the preferential treatment he is receiving in prison, or because he is too unattractive, even for Bubba's tastes. Whatever the reason, I look forward to news of prison guards removing his hook from where the sun don't shine, in the not-too-distant future.

Update: While Miriam is rather more charitable than I am, The Sun takes a similar position to me.
