Anyone Surprised?

Charges against six Middle Eastern revenge attackers from the day after the Cronulla riots have been dropped on legal advice. In a major setback for the investigation into the riot aftermath, police have been told there is insufficient evidence to secure a conviction for the charge of riot and affray against the men.

Last week police lawyers informed the strike force set up to track down and arrest the rioters and reprisal attackers that they lacked proof of "individual acts." In a further blow, one of the only cameramen recording the violent mob attacks in Brighton-Le-Sands hours after the earlier riots at Cronulla was bashed, leaving police with little record of the attackers' actions.

The development means there are now 84 people facing charges over the riots and revenge attacks, down from 90. Almost 40 per cent are of Middle Eastern descent and have been charged over reprisal attacks. It could also mean others in the sights of police for being part of the violent mob of revenge attackers at Brighton-Le-Sands could now escape charges.

Head of Strike Force Enoggera Detective Superintendent Ken McKay yesterday said the legal advice meant police had to prove "individual acts". "We have to be able to prove what each person did," he said.

He said officers had been able to rely on video footage as evidence against rioters at Cronulla but there was no similar account of the Brighton reprisal attacks.

The premier and his ministers told us they would get the ratbags, none of this would be tolerated, parliament was recalled, new laws, "we'll get tough". When the arrests started, and the public took notice of the large number of whites being arrested and charged versus a lower number of middle easterners being arrested and charged, they told us all was fair, not to worry, all the rat bags will get it.

Remember in November 2005, hickson road, car hoons causing mayhem in Hickson road,
Sydney, the authorities told us, it too difficult, can't pull these punks over and kick em in the crotch, instead we'll close the road to all except taxis and buses etc for 3 months, in reality, we can't stop the law breaking, we'll just hope they go somewhere else, make it someone else's problem.

Last week I hear on the radio police admitting they can't police it, too difficult.

Once again, we have been duped, new laws, harsh punishments, threats from under desks, meetings, statistics, graphs, conferences etc, all amount to nothing, nothings going to be done, the rat bags will get off, go back to their criminal activities and law abiding citizens will go back to locking their doors and windows, surrender the streets, stay at home and hope they don't cross paths with the crims.

Listen carefully to the news today and for the next few days, listen to the words of the critics, the talk back radio hosts and members of the public, they will blame the police hierarchy and the government, take note the front-line police will not be blamed (and correctly so).

In response the authorities will side-step the criticism by, telling us not to blame the police, they are doing the best they can and its not their fault and we have to understand their job is difficult and they have so many powers etc etc etc.
