Rudd warms the back muscles

ABC News - There is speculation that the $1,600 annual payment to carers - introduced four years ago - may be cut in the May Budget. There is further speculation that a $500 senior citizen bonus payment brought in my former prime minister John Howard in the lead-up to last year's election may also be for the chop. Speaking during his trip to Solomon Islands, Mr Rudd said a budget process is underway where everything is being debated in a transparent way. "What I can say to carers and pensioners right across Australia that there is no way on God's earth that I intend to leave them in the lurch," he said.
I had a feeling this would happen, I really don't think that PM Rudd will cut the piddling payments to carers and the seniors and credit to him if he doesn't allow it to go ahead. If he is a clever politician, which I think he is, this one's a dead duck folks. However, this does raise a few questions, how did this get past him and through to the media? After all this came out and the screaming and angry calls started, even Families Minister Jenny Macklin and Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard 'refused to deny the report'. How come the PM didn't know and his close ministers didn't know and/or refused to pick a side on the issue, an issue that's quite important to the electorate? How come those responsible for this don't think the way the PM does? What else is going to be slid under the radar and could possibly click into place without any one knowing or being given the chance to protest about? During the election there wasn't much doubt it was the Kevin07 show, but who is running the show in Kevin08?
