Sheriff Joe gets it right, again

CBS News - Joe Arpaio, self-styled as "America's Toughest Sheriff," has decided that if his inmates want the privilege of watching TV, they have to pedal for it. This clever idea came about when Arpaio realized half of the inmate population at the Tent City Jail in Phoenix, Ariz. is overweight and needed some exercise. The sheriff's staff customized a stationary bike so that when inmates pedal it, it generates 12 volts of electricity - enough to run a 19-inch TV. An hour of pedaling equals about an hour of TV time.
Arpaio explains, "If an inmate slows down and fails to pedal fast enough, an audible noise sounds off to warn inmates that the TV is shutting down." He says, "Peer pressure will have them pedaling, at least right up to the commercial breaks." In a press release Arpaio said the TV will give them a reason to exercise and a way to "burn up to 500 calories an hour." The inmates will have to sign a contract that says only those who agree to pedal will have access to the inmate-powered TV.

Gotta hand it to Sheriff Joe, not only does he get the crims paying for their crimes, he's also helping them lose weight and thereby improving their health, staving off all sorts of diseases related to obesity. And to boot, the crims are not even using carbon-emitting electricity, it's completely sustainable! What a guy! We need more like him all over the world.

I know liberals the world over will be very upset at this news, but you know what liberals Sheriff Joe is doing what you losers can't do even with all your bitching & whining about salt, trans-fats, Ronald the clown and everything else that doesn't taste like card board. So do us all a favor, just STFU, grab a pen and piece of paper and write a nice, polite letter thanking Sheriff Joe for what he does.

  1. A thousand of those inmates conceivably could power an electric chair. Now that'd be something!

  3. Howdy folks, Just an average liberal who happens to live in Sheriff Joe's Maricopa County and doesn't like to be told to STFU by someone with likely much less education...
While I like the bicycle idea and think it should be standard in all households, Sheriff Joe himself is one or two hamburgers away from a coronary...just one example of his hypocrisy. Another is that he is under serious investigation for misuse of County funds and is a criminal in his own right, though innocent until proven guilty, which is more than he allows those under his arrest. Here is just one example http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles/2010/07/20/20100720yanes0720.html
    Have a nice day, y'all!
