Licensed to kill!

That was the headline for the story of Joe Horn, Pasadena resident who decided to stop two burglars from stealing his neighbors belongings, on the local channel Ten evening news. I couldn't find any transcripts off their website, so you'll have to take my word for it, or not. First off, they forgot to mention that the two scumbags were ILLEGAL immigrants, they just called them immigrants. I guess the media wanted to paint Joe Horn as some sort of redneck, racist xenophobe as well as a gun-crazy, out-of-control vigilante. The Associated Press termed them "suspected" burglars.
AP - Ever since he fatally shot two men he suspected of burglarizing his next-door neighbor's home, 62-year-old Joe Horn has been both praised and vilified for his actions. Horn called 911 and told the dispatcher he had a shotgun and was going to kill the intruders. The dispatcher pleaded with him not to go outside, but a defiant Horn confronted the men with a 12-gauge shotgun and shot both in the back. [snip] After listening to evidence in the case, including testimony from Horn himself, a grand jury on Monday cleared him of the shootings. [snip] Lambright said Horn was not a "wild cowboy" who took the law into his own hands after he saw the two suspected burglars, with bags in hand, crawling out of windows from his neighbor's home on Nov. 14 in the Houston suburb of Pasadena. [snip]
See what I mean; only stupid leftist morons wouldn't think anything was suspicious when they see strange people climbing out of their neighbor’s window carrying his stuff. Maybe the dumb clucks thought they were like a modern day Robin Hood or something. This was another bit of detail left out by our local media.
Grand jurors had to consider two issues in the case: the intentional killing of another person and whether the killing was justified either by self-defense or the defense of property, Harris County District Attorney Kenneth Magidson told reporters. [snip] "The grand jury concluded that Mr. Horn's use of deadly force did not rise to a criminal offense." Texas law allows people to use deadly force to protect themselves if it is reasonable to believe they are in mortal danger. In limited circumstances, people also can use deadly force to protect their neighbor's property....[snip]
If you go back to the first paragraph, you won't see anything about him being in mortal danger, just some angry redneck looking to kill some [cue violins] poor, misunderstood immigrants seeking a better life in the hated America. Keep reading and you'll see what I'm talking about, the evening news didn't even bother to play that vital part of the recorded conversation, you see the elitists at Ten News have decided that Joe Horn is an out of control bastard with too much freedom, too many guns and lacking in nuance *spit*, so who cares about the whole story, just hang the bastard.
The two suspected burglars, Hernando Riascos Torres, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30, were unemployed illegal immigrants from Colombia. Torres was deported to Colombia in 1999 after a 1994 cocaine-related conviction.
Its way down towards the bottom of the article, paragraph 17 of 24, perhaps AP was hoping the reader gets bored by then. So they're not exactly boy scouts who came to clean the neighbor’s basement and thought it would be easier to climb out the window, carrying recycled paper in their red Christmas sacks when they were confronted by the cruel imperialist, blood-thirsty Horn. Neither this important detail nor the following made it into the evening news piece I saw here.
"You want to make a bet?" Horn answered. "I'm going to kill them." After the shooting, he redialled 911. "I had no choice," he said, his voice shaking. "They came in the front yard with me, man. I had no choice. Get somebody over here quick."
Bastard media, lying by omission. This is right at the bottom; I'm surprised the AP even bothered putting it there, probably to maintain some pretense of fairness. Back to the local news, judging from the pained appearance of the News reader, I was surprised someone didn't have to hold his bloody hand before he burst into tears or something. I was even more surprised when they didn't proceed to open some sort of protest email/hotline or candle light vigil for the two scumbags. Forget License to Kill, it's License to Lie as far as the some media are concerned.

All I gotta say is, good on ya Joe Horn, thank you for doing us all a favor, I hope you can cope with all the loonies crying and squealing like a bunch of stuck pigs. Thanks to the jury as well for doing the right thing. Thanks to you, thieving scumbags in Pasadena will be thinking twice before they help themselves to other people's property. Something the whiners can't seem to get their complex brains around, instead they'd probably prefer more social engineering and social workers to nanny us all into line.

On a side note, something I'd like to share with you, in the call that Joe Horn made, the 911 operator practically begged Joe not to go out with his gun, he told him that no amount of property was worth his life. In most parts of America, if you decide that your property is not worth defending with your life, that your family is not worth defending with a gun, that there is nothing worth more to you than your life, then you are free to take the coward’s way out. However, if you are confronted with a man demanding the keys to your car or your wallet, and you tell him, screw you, I worked my ass off for it and you will not take it, then you are free to do that as well, the state will not hinder you.

In countries with gun control, when you are not allowed to confront the armed criminal with arms, effectively they are holding your hands behind your back and ordering you to give it up and hand over everything he wants because they have ruled that nothing you have worked your ass off for is worth a damn to anyone, especially not to you. It's not said publicly, but effectively you cannot resist because the odds are stacked against you, you cannot win so the decision is made for you, like you are a small child who doesn't know what's good for you. Don't know about you folks but I personally find that incredibly insulting. I don't mind if the gun grabbers want to lead cowardly lives on their knees, my problem is that they want to force me to go along with them.
