"A NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT"
Thiswas the newspaper headline which greeted me just before dawn this morning, when I called into a service station on the way to the dawn service.
The text of the article had this to say, though: "The treatment of some of our returned service people was a national embarrassment, retired Lieutenant Colonel John Gardner said today."
Ok, fair enough..or is it? Most people would simply see the photograph and the headline - and the juxtaposition of the two conveys, I suspect, precisely what the person responsible intended it to.
Either that or it's such monumental stupidity that the mind boggles....
