Oh those dumb Americans again

If only they had the suave culture of the French diplomats, their elitist mentality, peace, dialogoue, hide, talk, waffle, complex theories, all that.. They'd get nowhere.

Mike Jericho posting on the French fashion industry's, 'veiled' accomodation of islamic fundamentalists, said the following, "Yes, I've no doubt at all that having a religious maniac standing behind one with a scimitar can have wonderful, magical effects on one's creative processes." Thanks Mike.

A ranking Iranian national security official said Thursday that Iran is willing to engage in direct talks with the United States about the political future of Iraq. In Washington, the White House said it was prepared to open discussions with Iran -- provided that the talks were restricted to Iraq-related issues.

The comments in an interview by Ali Larijani, general secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, marked a striking public shift by Iran toward direct engagement with Washington at a time when the Bush administration has become ever more outspoken about what it claims is assistance by Iran to insurgent activity in Iraq.

The BBC's correspondent can't bring himself to give any credit to the swaggering Texan, I think he's just wary of the religious maniac with the scimitar. He prefers to paint this as more of a tired and weary America reaching out to a bold and much admired Iran (that scimitar guy again) seeking help to stabilise the vietnam style quagmire in Iraq.

The BBC's diplomatic correspondent, Jonathan Marcus, says that while the nations' fundamental interests differ, they may have some short-term goals in common. The increasing violence and disorder in Iraq is making neighbouring Iran just as worried as Washington, he says.

Yes Iran, I have no doubt, having a man with a spine of tempered steel in the white house and in command of the world's most powerful army right next door to you, battle hardened, angry (at Irans support of the terrorist scum) and armed to the teeth, can have wonderful, magical effects on your foreign policy.
