VW fails to see the joke

The German car maker plans to take legal action after an unofficial ad was distributed by email. Politically incorrect email marketing has raised its head in the car business again - with predictable outrage from the company it apparently promotes.

Politically incorrect email marketing has raised its head in the car business again - with predictable outrage from the company it apparently promotes. This time Volkswagen is on the receiving end and is threatening legal action in Britain over an outrageous advertisement for its Polo model which spread by email around the world in a matter of days.

It begins with a man of Middle Eastern appearance wearing a black-and-white checkered kaffiyeh around his neck leaving a house and climbing into a Volkswagen Polo. After a short drive through city streets he stops in front of a crowded restaurant with people sitting at outdoor tables. The driver pulls out a detonator and presses the button. There is an explosion but rather than causing widespread death and destruction, the muffled blast is contained within the apparently undamaged car.

A slogan appears on the screen: "Polo. Small but tough."

I don't understand what all the fuss is about, Islamic terrorists maintain, the suicide car bomber is a legitimate tactic. In this ad innocent people are spared thanks to the Polo, the bomber gets to paradise to his 100 virgins, VW gets the kudos for saving all those people.

I wonder if they are scared of offending muslims, if thats the case, maybe the Islamic fundementalists should stop using suicide bombers. I suppose VW should be worried, all it takes is a few crazies and a fatwa, and we all know there is no shortage of either.
