The world doesn’t owe us a living

Daily Mail - David Cameron warned 'the world doesn't owe us a living' as he said Britain will have to fight to maintain its place at the 'top table' of world economies. In a stark warning about Britain's fragility, the Prime Minister said the UK will have to 'reboot' the economy in order to 'fight for our survival'.

Outlining a three-point plan for recovery, Mr Cameron said the UK must get to grips with the deficit, slash benefits to make work pay and kickstart international trade if Britons are to sample the prosperity enjoyed by the post-war generation. ...Mr Cameron's words were designed to shock those who have got used to rising national wealth and state handouts.
Amen to that. Every leader in the western world with an ounce of honesty and patriotism ought to be telling his fellow citizens this at every opportunity. From America to Britain to France to Spain to Greece to Australia, no one on this planet owes us a living. And they shouldn't stop at other nations, the people of New York don't owe Los Angeles a living, just like the people of Sydney don't owe the people of Melbourne a living and so on.

The economy of a nation is not that much different from the economy of your household, if you owe hundreds of thousands to the bank, you should not be sampling the expensive machinery at the local BMW dealership. If your state is owing billions in debt, then you should not be funding crack heads or welfare and taxing your working citizens even further.

If we refuse to listen to such advice, then the world will show us in the harshest of terms that they don't owe us a damn thing. In fact if they offer to fund our stupidity some more, get worried because they might be leading us into a trap, one where they not only don't owe us anything, but one where they actually own us.
