Someone is going to die and it's not going to be me

Daily Mail - Sean Francis stabbed Wendy Billing 11 times as she picked up their son, John, from nursery on September 14, 2006, an inquest heard. Two days before, Francis, 37, had been given a conditional discharge by magistrates for assaulting 32-year-old Miss Billing. Later that day, he threatened to kill her, saying: "Someone is going to die and it's not going to be me." The next day, he appeared at a county court for breaching a civil nonmolestation order, but was released after the case was adjourned. A day later, he killed Miss Billing, then drove to a railway station where he killed himself by jumping in front of a train.
It's a good thing he killed himself, because few western countries would have the stomach to do that. The police admitted that they failed to protect her, apparently Scotland Yard and whoever else have reviewed their actions and have promised to learn from this case. A mother is dead, someone's daughter is dead, someone's sister is dead, a little boy has lost his mother in the most brutal fashion. This happened in Britain, the same thing has happened in Australia, the laws are pretty similar in both countries and just as useless and only hinder in both countries. Most of you men know you can take care of yourselves, but what about the women you know, you all have mothers, sisters, wives and friends who happen to be women. Can they look after themselves, what will they do if one day they get a call, "Someone is going to die and it's not going to be me."

I'm not claiming that Wendy Billing wanted to carry loaded a gun to protect herself, but in Australia and Britain, at the end of the day, if they wanted to, they can't. Think about it, if someone you know, or you get the above call, there is precious little you can do other than become a test case for the police and courts to 'learn from'. If you know the person, you can go the police, if you're lucky they'll get thrown in jail for a short while, but no court will hold them there indefinitely. The local constabulary might send a car around for a few nights, but in two years time, you're dreaming! They won't sit outside your door for the rest of your life, comparing people walking by to a photograph. You can move, change your life and hide but what if he finds you.

It's against the law to carry a knife or a loaded gun for self-defense, it's also against the law to stab someone 11 times in front of their child but the criminal doesn't care about the law. Read the whole article, the law was supposed to protect her, but it could not. For women like Wendy Billing, the best way to protect themselves is to carry a concealed handgun, but in both countries they are denied this most basic human right to protect themselves in the easiest fashion possible. I think it was Mark Steyn who once said, the greater the coalition the lesser it achieves. It's the same from the global stage to a stalked mother picking up her child from day nursery. There was a grand coalition of Scotland Yard, the courts and various other agencies that had intervened to 'protect' Wendy Billing and her son. Well, you can make your own judgment on their achievements.
