New Zealand Not Doing Enough in the War on Global Warming

It seems New Zealand is having trouble keeping its promises on reducing carbon emissions. An article in The New Zealand Herald reports on this very serious issue.

The Government is running risks with New Zealand's international reputation by talking about carbon neutrality when on our present course and speed we will be lucky to reach our Kyoto target by 2050 - 38 years late, the New Zealand Institute says.

Apparently, half of NZ emissions come from agriculture but the government hasn't been able to develop a cow powered by hydrogen fuel cells yet. It's interesting that feeding people is half the problem. But I guess the leftards would be fine with everyone starving half the time if it reduces carbon emissions.

At the Bali climate change conference in December New Zealand supported European calls for developed countries to aim to reduce their combined emissions to 25 to 40 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020.

The National Party has set a target of 50 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050.

The Government has not put a date on its "aspiration of carbon neutrality", a term which implies reducing emissions to the level at which they can be entirely offset by establishing carbon sinks such as new forests.

Good, lets replace all those farms with forests so we can be carbon nutral. Has anyone thought about this? Also, won't those forests need CO2?

It's always a good idea to think before you do something stupid, at least then you won't be surprised when it doesn't work. Actually, I thought the war against global warming was going pretty well given the large drop in global temperatures in the past year. Because of that, I would suggest that NZ declare victory in the war on Global Warming and move on to something else, like protecting its citizens from stupid promises made by their own government.
