New Leadership, No Ideas

kevin_rudd.jpgSMH - The Prime Minister said yesterday a two-day Australia 2020 summit in Parliament House in April would bring together talented people from outside government to look beyond the usual short-term focus of politics and policymaking. "For too long Australian policymaking has been focused on short-term outcomes dictated by the electoral cycle," Mr Rudd said. "If Australia is to effectively confront the challenges of the future, we need to develop an agreed national direction that looks at the next 10 years and beyond." The Government's move to convene a gathering on the nation's future is reminiscent of the Hawke government's 1983 economic summit, which that sought to forge a national consensus on economic policy. It also reflects Mr Rudd's political message during the election campaign that he was the leader for the future and would bring energy and fresh ideas to bear upon longer-term policy issues.

Well that's one way to spin it SMH, another way to look at it is to look back at what was said during the election campaign. Fresh ideas folks, he had the plans in his office drawers, flow charts, pie graphs and what not, all ready to go. He was going to hit the ground running, no breaks, homework for the ministers, working families, bucks stopping and starting, revolutions and all that. Did anyone else see the wiffle-waffle from the Dudd team yesterday, we feel your pain, mortgage stress, we feel your pain, it's terrible, have a tissue, we feel your pain? Heck, they even had Morris the NSW Premier also assuring you that he knows your terrible paaaaiiiiiinnnnnnn. I'm surprised Morris is allowed before the cameras now, oh yeah it's post election, so no worries. Is it just me or does Morris look sleep-deprived?

He looks very stressed and like he isn't sleeping well, perhaps Morris was also happy not to appear before too many cameras. It's alright Morris, I believe there are local council elections coming up, so I'm sure they'll send you on some junket somewhere to 'reflect'. Coming back to our glorious leader Kevin07, from what I saw, there was a bit of Fresh Leadership, but if he had any Fresh Ideas, then why call the best and brightest to come up with you know, fresh ideas. Perhaps what he meant was that Kevin07 had fresh ideas, fresh in 2007 that is, it's 2008 now so get with the program people, even your milk doesn't last forever. At the next election, perhaps Kevin09 or Kevin10 can put forward these 1000 people so that we can vote based on what they're thinking and not what he's waffling on about.
