-- Irish rockers U2 have used the opening concert of their Australian tour to campaign for the terrorist suspect David Hicks to be released from Guantanamo Bay.
The Irish super group's frontman, Bono, raised the Hicks case during last night's concert at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre in Brisbane.
"We call for David Hicks to be brought back to Australia," he said.

THE South Australian Government's plan to boost the state's population was environmental suicide given the water supply crisis, Australian Democrat MP Sandra Kanck said today.
The State Government wants to lift the SA population from 1.5 million to two million by 2050.
But Ms Kanck said Premier Mike Rann must explain where the water for the extra people would come from. "We are already killing the Murray (river) to look after our current population," she said. "Mike Rann's plan for another 500,000 people is environmental suicide."
"We don't have to shut out the world. There is room for family reunions, refugees, and we need some skilled migrants, but any large scale population increase would be crazy," she said.
"South Australia doesn't have to be big to be prosperous. Singapore, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland all have small populations and high standards of living."
Can someone tell this fool about Mark Steyn, the European countries she is referring to are in for one helluva shock when, the muttawa, come knocking in a few decades to collect the jizya.
As for Singapore, aren’t they right next to Malaysia, I saw a program last week on ABC, about the ‘Arabisation’ of Malaysia. You know that whole Islamic caliphate thing, from Madrid to Istanbul, that implies expansion of sorts so I wouldn’t be packing my bags for Singapore anytime soon, unless you find sharia appealing.
If the good democrat is still confused, understandable as many liberals insist Islam is progressive, peace and all that, Islamic countries are not known for their high standard of living.
