Disturbances around Sydney

News from around Sydney in the last few days, while the politicians tell us from under their desks in offices protected by security, that we are safe, we are free to walk around anywhere in Sydney, nothing to worry from young knife strapping youth or criminal thugs; the law will protect us, conferencing, hand holding, community service, hugs and kisses will deter violent criminals, I think we know better.

Last time I checked, hospitals are manned 24 hours a day, apparently that doesn't matter anymore, day or night, it is now in front of the public, the criminals fear nothing and nobody.

Ram raiders have smashed their way into the foyer of a hospital in Sydney's south-west in an attempt to steal an automated teller machine. Police say a stolen white Mitsubishi van slammed into Campbelltown Hospital's main entrance at 4.30am (AEDT) today. The thieves tried to steal an ATM from the foyer but were unsuccessful, police said.

Next they'll be ramming in church doors, I mean do these shameless scum have any boundaries.

"Get off our beach. This is our beach. We own it." These are the fighting words a group of thugs spoke to three North Cronulla surf lifesavers before bashing them on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Cronulla locals say in the past three years a large influx of youths have travelled from Sydney's west to the beachside to intimidate beachgoers and start fights. During the October long weekend, police were called to North Cronulla three times over several hours to defuse a large-scale stand-off between and visiting gangs and locals.

Some regular Cronulla beachgoers said that the behaviour of Middle Eastern groups was so offensive, they opted to travel to other beaches instead.

Perhaps they should leave these thugs to the beach, when one of them ends up in the sea surrounded by sharks and unable to sms all his mates to come 'bash em up', they may then call up the life guards and request assistance while scoffing down humble pie at the same time.

So this is what we are reduced to, moving around the city, avoiding these criminal scum. But they still follow you.

It was a party with workmates at the home of a colleague to celebrate the Christmas season. Over a few drinks and a little music, 2GB newsreader Rowan Barker posed for photographs with his friends as he enjoyed the evening's festivities.

Just an hour after these pictures were taken on Saturday, Rowan was stabbed in the heart in a random attack by a couple of young gatecrashers.

Its just another weekend in Sydney, intimidation, stealing, robberies, home invasions, swords, knives, bats etc wielded by criminals, kick in your door, do what they want, you fight back, the scum get hurt, your up for charges of excessive force. We have this soft, warm and fuzzy approach to the criminal element, oh its too hard, they weren't loved enough when they grew up, no santa claus to cuddle them, not enough money, socio economic this and that led to them offending, low self esteem, its really the fault of the law abiding majority.

Here is part of the problem.

NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney says four days of violence at Macquarie Fields earlier this year was not a riot but a "disturbance". Mr Moroney told a parliamentary inquiry the violence in Sydney's west in February was not a riot when compared to incidents in Los Angeles or Paris.

He said he agreed with the distinction between disturbance and riot as defined by New York police chief Bill Bratten. "I think by any reasoned interpretation there is a very distinct difference between the two, both in terms of the intensity of the activity and the response which is required," Mr Moroney told the inquiry.

This is what our law enforcement is reduced to, instead of sending in the police to kick some crotches in and break some legs, a mouth full of knuckles in return for abusing police and the public, no no oh no, none of that here, we'll gather under our tables armed with dictionaries and argue and bicker over definitions.

We'll feel good by comparing ourselves with spineless France, still talking tough and doing crap after 3 weeks of rioting and burning, thousands of cars burnt and millions in damages.

A disturbance is when you are asleep in the morning and birds squawk and wake you, you turn over and go back to sleep, so I guess if 20+ people gather in the good commissioner's street, throw a few bricks around, a handful of molotov cocktails here and there, he'll just turn over and go back to sleep, leave the police to pore over dictionaries and consult academics.
