Intifada - Day 10

Its been ten days of burning and pillaging, the riots started in Paris, now they are now in other major cities. When I posted on friday (4/11), the French politicians were getting angry and were really going to kick the crap out of the disadvantaged rioters.

Well its day 10 and the rioters are not remaining in their 'naughty corners'. They have indeed incurred the wrath of the mighty French President. The gloves have come off, now we see the mean side of Chirac, he has chaired yet another crisis meeting.

President Jacques Chirac says France is determined to prevail in the face of widespread rioting that has gripped mostly African and Arab communities. He said it was an "absolute priority" to re-establish order. But moments afterwards, fresh unrest erupted in Orleans, Rennes and Nantes.

NOTE: The word 'Arab' has been used, it's a historic milestone people.

"The law must have the last word," Mr Chirac told reporters in his first public address on the violence. "The Republic is quite determined... to be stronger than those who want to sow violence or fear."

As I said on friday, they are waiting for the rioters to get tired, and/or all is burnt down and there is nothing left to burn, so technically he will have the last word.

Mr Chirac promised arrest, trials and punishment for perpetrators. But he also noted that "respect for all, justice and equal opportunity," were needed to end the unrest.

This is advance warning to the law abiding French citizens, that little will be done, the perpetrators will be counselled, lots of hand holding, tax payer funded camps, day trips to build self esteem, free lollies and computer games and if they get violent, whatever else they would like. There is another message as well, last I checked about 1200 cars have been torched, among other things, note the words justice for all and respect being bandied about, that means if your car is now a pile of burnt rubble, if you aren't insured, consider it a noble sacrifice in the quest for understanding the misunderstood.

Mr de Villepin promised extra security where it was needed. "We cannot accept any 'no-go' areas", he said.

Er, Mr esteemed Prime Minister, may I humbly suggest a leisurely stroll into one of the ghettos and it might reveal the freedom you have in your own country. Since it is quite obvious the government lacks, the back muscle, the press are searching for solutions.

In Liberation, commentator Patrick Sabatier writes: "We must not abandon entire areas to the violence of a minority ... wait for it ... He says the government must give the local officials, mediators and organisations "the means - financial above all else - to ensure order, if it's to have any chance of lasting".

While the PC brigade has given up and is sitting quietly in their offices calculating how much money the tax payers need to cough up to make this problem go away and waiting for the burning to stop, the bad boys are rampaging and the police are left to fend for themselves.

A school was also petrol-bombed in the town while four police officers were injured in clashes with youths, some of them reportedly wielding baseball bats.

Not even the environmentalists get off.

A recycling facility was attacked in Essone, with at least 35 vehicles torched.

Over the weekend, I saw there were silent protests being held to stop the violence, as if that ever worked, what a waste of time that turned out to be. But there is hope, while the politicians sidestep and weasel their way around this, and the press try to sell us the crap that its the Congolese, the public seem to be getting the message.

In Drancy, north-east of Paris, two teenagers were caught and handed over to police after they tried to set fire to a lorry.

I hope these two misunderstood young fire brands were introduced to every pole, curb and trash can on their way to the police station, goes a long way to help them understand the products of hard work and sweat are not for them to burn and ruin.

Update 08/11/05 -

Thanks to the spineless politicians and hand wringers, a civillian who tried to protect his car was killed. Hundreds gathered to remember Jean-Jacques Le Chenadec in Paris.
While Chirac and his band of merry weasels is engaged in "dialogue to avoid a dangerous situation", safe in their meeting rooms the police are being ambushed and shot at.

Publicly de Villepin is still talking nonsense, tail firmly tucked between his legs.

..."at each step, we will take the necessary measures to re-establish order very quickly throughout France. "That is our prime duty; ensuring everyone's protection."

As he outlined his plans, fresh clashes broke out in the southern city of Toulouse, where rioters set fire to a bus.

If the French want any security or a way to stop the burning and pillaging, they better walk into the parliament or where ever the hell these fools are meeting, drag them out and take over the joint. Perhaps break the legs of these rioters, that should restore order for a few months while the bones heal, put the army in charge otherwise the country will be lost while these clowns vote and dither.
