Blame the Left.

What’s ‘multiculturalism’ really all about? Well, this writer thinks it’s arguably all about hatred – a tradition of self-hatred, to be more exact. Or, in the words of Mark Steyn, a ‘liberal democratic tradition so mired in self-loathing it would rather destroy our civilization just to demonstrate its multicultural bona fides’.

So what’s this little bit of self-flagellation going to cost us? Here in Aus’, just one small example is kindly provided by Justice Kirby (an eminent judge, currently sitting on the High Court of Australia, and something of a darling of the Left), in his paper of 14 December 1997 “A BILL OF RIGHTS FOR AUSTRALIA - BUT DO WE NEED IT?”:

. . . The principle of multiculturalism has been adopted by the major political parties in the Federal Parliament. This means that aspects of the unity of the nation which hitherto existed in the essentially monochrome ethnic and cultural composition of its people, cannot now be assumed. Certainly it cannot be assumed that these features will exist forever. In such circumstances, it is not only desirable, but urgent, to express in constitutional form, the basic principles that represent the foundation of the unity of the nation. . .
I found this passage remarkably honest (do let all your Lefty friends know) when I first read it (not that you’ll hear him repeat these words these days, and for obvious reasons). He’s absolutely right, of course.

But what the. . .

If we’re acknowledging that our society (and culture) holds such remarkable values as a matter of course, then why the hell were we so hell bent on changing it? What is it the great multicultural experiment was supposed to give us that makes this appalling loss so worthwhile?

Well, now we know. . .

Of course, the Left is screaming loudest about the loss of civil liberties we face at the hands of our new terror laws. And they’re absolutely right to do so. We are losing our freedoms.

The problem is, though, they blame John Howard and the Conservatives.

The reality is, the architects and champions of multiculturalism, the Left, should be blaming no one but themselves. . .

But don't take my word for it. Just ask Justice Kirby. . .
