Update : David Marr??

Who is David Marr? I need your help fellow bloggers, from what I heard this morning on the Ray Hadley morning program on local radio station 2GB, Mr. Marr is a rather strange character to put it lightly. After doing a quick search on a search engine, he is associated with ABC's Media Watch, some sort of media police ... never heard of them.

Anyway getting to the point, a listener emailed Ray Hadley this morning to tell him that, on this sunday's ABC Insiders program, David Marr was asked for a final comment on Pope John Paul II's death, unfortunately I can't seem to find a transcript anywhere, but it was along the lines of "now that the pope is late, maybe we'll have a better world".

This was said only a few hours after learning of the pope's death. Ray Hadley played a recoding recieved from the ABC to confirm what David Marr said, later in his program.
From what I heard on the recording, I don't think I am drawing too long a bow to say that Marr is not a fan of the late pope, maybe he didn't agree with the pope's conservative stance or maybe he believes that God should 'get with the times', but was it necessary to take such a cheap and spiteful shot.

Maybe I'm wrong, have any of you watched the Insiders program this sunday? Did you see/hear any different?
Marr: Spiteful Leftist or insensitive jerk?

Update 07/04/2005 12:20pm

Just listened to an interview Ray Hadley (2GB) did with this fellow David Marr. Apparently he doesn't think saying "the world is a better place now that the pope is dead", four hours after his death was such a bad thing, and no he is not feeling apologetic for it. Apparently the amount of time to wait before bad mouthing the dead is very relative, some say 3 days, some say2 weeks, Marr says 4 hours, I guess everyone is right.

Marr is also an Atheist and Gay, I can see why he is not the pope's biggest fan, Marr was complaining that the late Pope John Paul II was too strict and clamped down too much on debate and dissent ... now its all clear, the bible must be debated, God's laws are open to change, this is bloody 2005 people, get with the times.

When moses comes down with the stone tablets, send him back, we're not too happy about some of those commandments, we've had enough of this "can't do this and can't do that", we need some robust debate, passionate speeches, chanting, vote, some protests, where are the flags and banners, round and round we must march, by the pearly gates. What's all this crap about believing in the son of God to have eternal life, we have voted that we will enter into the kingdom, step aside angels, humanities delegation coming through.

Forgive him father for he knows not what he does.
